How to report bug or submit patch?

This question follows up the recent discussion on the mailing list.

There seem to be no guidelines published anywhere on i3wm.org about what's the recommended mean of submitting a bug or a patch.

There seem to me more than one way to do that:

submit to the i3 Trac
post to the mailing list
e-mail Michael directly
speak on the IRC channel

Some users seemed to be confused and the questions how to do it come back frequently.

Let's clarify it here

Go to the start page (i3wm.org) and click on the upper right corner which is labeled "Bugs". Here you can submit your bug or feature request with the "New Ticket" button. A separate account or login is not required.

All other methods needs the "post-processing" mentioned above (create a ticket in Trac).
