I am currently using i3 together with VirtualBox. While the VirtualBox QT4 GUI Window is floating, all the windows with guest VM console are not. Pressing the Floating shortcut does not change anything.

Is there any workaround/etc to solve that issue?

Answer by cee for
Hi,

Could it be, that your virtual box already has 'focus' and the keystrokes for making the visible window floating are actually sent to the OS running within the virtualbox?

Try pressing the virtualbox' 'Host' key first, before issuing the 'floating' command.
Default Host Key is the **Right Ctrl** key.

Comment by cee for
Hi,

Defined in ~/.i3/config (bindsym $mod+Shift+space floating toggle)
Meaning, that on pressing the defined shortcut one can toggle the floating state (vs. full-container view) of the focused window.
