Hi, I'm a new eeePC/debian/lightdm/i3wm user. I'm at the i3 desktop, but when I hit Alt+Enter, nothing happens. I can however change the workspaces by hitting Alt+<1..10> (this seems to be the only thing I can do). Umm...What's happening? :D

You need a terminal emulator. See "man i3-sensible-terminal" for a list of terminals that it will attempt to start. Install your favorite terminal and try again.
