I need a program/script to manage my brightness (lower brightness after one minute, shut down the screen after 5) and to enable automatic suspend when I close the lid of my laptop. I don't really need any other functionality. Somebody suggested cron scripts, but I do not have enough knowledge for such things.

Does anybody know of any alternatives?

Answer by joepd for
I'm currently using xfce4-power-manager, which isn't reliable enough, neither does it offer enough functions.

The [Arch wiki](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop_Mode_Tools) has a good article about it.

Answer by dejan for
I'm currently using xfce4-power-manager, which isn't reliable enough, neither does it offer enough functions.

It can suspend now, and it also offers brightness control.
