However I change the size of the i3bar (through increasing and decreasing the font), java's SystemTray always returns the same width and height (24) from getTrayIconSize()

I'm wondering if 

 - changing the font size is the "correct" way of changing the i3bar size
 - why isn't java being updated when the size changes
