Many use some symbolic font, which looks lovely but I have no clue which fonts are usable and which are not.. I'd prefer to install them using the debian repository.

- [Typicons](http://typicons.com/)
- [Entypo](http://www.entypo.com/)
- [Open Iconic](https://useiconic.com/open/)
- [Foundation](http://zurb.com/playground/foundation-icon-fonts-3)
- [Ionicons](http://ionicons.com/)

You could also make your own, even picking and choosing your favorites from multiple sets or uploading your own icons, using [Fontello](http://fontello.com/) or [IcoMoon](https://icomoon.io/). This would be one way to get the LAN/4JR symbol you want.

Also I can recommend **ttf-font-icons**, available from the AUR for example.

Answer by Airblader for
I've been going trough a bunch of screenshots of people using i3 and custom i3 status bars.
