Error: Another window manager seems to be running (X error 10)

i have just installed i3 in opensuse 12.3 KDE. After running the i3 wizard, I tried running i3 by invoking the app from Konsole: i3 -c ~/.i3/config I then get the above error about an existing wm.

I just want to try out i3 for a while. I should be able to go back to the original wm.

I am very new to KDE and opensuse.
