Screen turns black after one minute of no activity. Anyway to disable it?

This looks more like a screensaver feature to me... check if it is enabled... That will depend on which distro you are using, as well as the desktop environment you are on (if any).

For example, if Gnome, you can go to gnome-control-center and set this in "Brightness and Lock".

Sounds like DPMS, a power-saving technique.

Use this command to turn off DPMS:

xset -dpms

There is a bug in dpms with the kde that ships with Debian Wheezy that allows dpms to turn back on regularly, so if you end up doing this, you may need to add this to your crontab and have it run every 5-10 minutes.
