OS ubuntu 12.04.

Running Spotify Linux preview results in no sound when in i3. I've checked pulseaudio with pact list and it seems to be running fine. Chrome outputs sound fine.

Running spotify from the command-line shows the following log messages

15:11:57.567 I [audio_driver_linux.cpp:18       ] Using PulseAudio

15:11:57.662 D [spirc_manager.cpp:1712          ] GAIA: SpircManager::becomeActiveDevice, isActiveDevice=true

you can see that the song is being played but there is no sound.

Does it work with other window managers? Or why do you think it is a problem with i3 rather than with spotify?

It works with Unity and Lubuntu. If I exit i3 and log back into Unity spotify produces sound again. I'm not sure if the issue is with i3 or spotify, but perhaps a combination of both.
