i3lock slow/delayed key refresh [closed]

Using i3lock on Arch/Manjaro (from Awesome) and mostly working well except it takes ages to redraw the screen as I press keys. The circle updates but takes about 500 ms to refresh making an average password takes nearly 5 sec to process.

Note: Possibly related to Problem with slow keys.

Do you wait for the refresh, when typing? Or does it take that long for the animation after you finished typing your password at your usual speed?

I think the problem is in the keyboard layer, not in i3lock. In any case, the FAQ is not suitable for bugreports. Please post to http://bugs.i3wm.org/ instead.
