I am trying to run i3-save-tree and it seems that bash cannot find it?

I have no idea how to even start this.

My system is a mid-2010 MacBook Pro running Kali.

Any and all help would be extremely welcome :/

i3-save-tree only exists as of i3 4.8. You can find out which version you are running by running i3 --version. If you find out that you are on an older version you should update if this is possible.

On the off chance that you are running a recent version it is usually possible in your package manager to see what files a given package installed. You would want to locate i3-save-tree and ensure its in a directory that is included in your path.

I tried: apt-get update; apt get upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade. Nothing updated :/

So what version do you have?

I'm currently on 4.2

I just realised that since i'm using Kali's repos, i3 might not be updated...

Have you considered trying Arch Linux? Their repo has 4.8. But my question is about disappearing text in a urxvtc.

@Adaephon and @Michael_Rose I'm curious about why neither of you up-voted the asker's question so he could move up above 1 karma point. I mean, not to offend or anything. I'm just trying to understand why this site has so many new users with only 1 karma point, even while more experienced users help

@Gamonics A lot of the 1-karma users never posted anything (We have 25k registered users and 1112 questions. So each question woudl need 24 answers and no one posted twice). As for voting: I think it should be based solely on the post itself is, not on who posted it.

I agree in general (votes for a question should be based solely on the post itself), but it seems like there's a large number of users at this site who are so restricted in privileges RIGHT NOW (with 1 karma point) that they cannot vote at all. That makes it difficult for the community to grow.

When many new users arn't even aware that voting is essential to the success of a SE-like community like this one, I think that not being allowed to vote SIGNIFICANTLY hinders their ability to understand the importance of voting. That's why I'm trying to give every 1-karma user at least one up-vote.
